woah what a boona log without mer chaos
[Blades slice through the air with a whistle and get batted away easily. disappointing but still effective. The dog was catching on. In a way, that made it more fun. With a faint grin, Baroona follows up, darting under the glaive as it knocks the other blade away–his free hand snaps the cord back so the knife will return. With his other blade he stabs deep into the jackal's thigh and slices out. Tear some ligaments, muscles, something. By the way the creature howls and falters, it seems to have worked.
A snarl forewarns him–he looks up, the other side of the glaive comes down. Baroona leans back just in time. The blade enters his thigh–an eye for an eye–where it would've met his back. Fatal blow avoided, but he still barks in pain as the end is pulled out. It starts to swing down again; Baroona doesn't wait to move. Pushing off his back leg, he shoves the jackal to the ground in a tackle, wrestling and cutting with it until–with a knife buried in its throat–it stops moving.
With a heavy sigh, Baroona sits up straight, wiping the sweat from his brow and fixing the cloth around his face. On the corpse's armor, he wipes his knives clean, draping the cord around his neck as he pushes off its body to stand...
And promptly falls over into the sand. Great.
Frowning, he tries again; fails again. He keeps it up, if only because falling helps him close the distance between himself and the well nearby.]

Not if the invitation's open. [A beat. Another shift.] Open your mouth.
[His voice is a silky purr but his eyes are alight with a dare. He moves his free hand with a roll of a shoulder and a push of the chest to wrap around Zelos' neck, fingers toying idly with his hair. His other hand places the chunk of fish between his teeth, falling to his side as he leans down and meets his mouth without touching it, using his tongue to push the chunk of meat in.]
no subject
You're a little shit, you know that?
[Just getting that out there. Stop trying to beat him! He doesn't just open his mouth to take the fish, but closes it over Baroona's tongue with a playful bite to pull back and eat the fish before raising a hand from Baroona's leg to shove lightly at his chest. Get off you loser.]
Taste like it too.
no subject
Still win.
[Rolling to his feet, he waggles the untouched fish between his fingers, tossing Zelos his own–mostly eaten–one.] I'm taking my prize.
[Already biting into it at the tail-end of the sentence; he turns around, walking back to where his weapons are and sliding down in front of them.]

[His tone is super butthurt, but it's a clear Zelos-specific sign that he's having fun, to be messing around like this. He gives an over the top sigh as he catches that mostly-eaten fish, staring incredulously as Baroona takes an uneaten one and leaves like that. Wow.
Standing up, Zelos steps over towards the fire and shoves the back of Baroona's head forward in a playful gesture before stepping around the fire to sit by his own things.]

That's no way to thank someone for a free meal.
no subject
Free? You're kidding, right? I'm the one who had to catch that meal!
no subject
[Smirking very slightly as he says that because heh. It was totally implied that he did. Rips out another chunk of fish with his teeth.] You just did what I suggested.
[SHRUGS, tipping his head back and chewing.]
no subject
[Teasingly, just as he raises that pebble to flick back at Baroona, tearing off another piece to munch of the fish.]
no subject
[Catching the pebble and swallow his chunk of fish at the same time. Spits out the scales before continuing.] You don't need to know how to swim to catch a fish. There's other ways to do it.
[Wipes off his mouth on his arm.] I just wanted to see if you could do it.
[Although the river had looked deeper. Maybe he was confusing it with different areas. Rips off another chunk of meat.]
no subject
[Way later on. He had heard it-- so this is a bit of cheating, but details. He flicks some scales over to Baroona as well.]
It was a lot deeper in areas too. What if you had really needed saving, hmm?
no subject
Then it'd be up to you.
[Pulling his knees to his chest, he rests his arms on his knees, idly picking off the scales and casting a sidewards glance at Zelos.] Would you save me?
no subject
And then he's laughing a bit, like he's playing around.]
Of course, of course! Because you'd be relying on me, wouldn't you? [That smile is tinted dark even while it's carefree. Zelos is a weirdo idk how to word this shit okay.] I'm the type of guy you can count on!
this tag sucks but yolo
Are you?
[It's a force of habit, this suspicion, but it's saved his life on multiple occasions.] If you say you are, I'll trust you. [A partial lie, but he's convincing about it. He wants to hear Zelos say it.]
NO IT DOESN'T
[Something in his voice (though it doesn't deviate too far from his casual tone) shows that he's in disbelief about that.]
I'm serious!
[He doesn't believe it at all. He just wants to be believed in.]
SHHHHH SHHHHHH
[There's a simplicity to how he says it that emphasizes the honesty of his statement. There's no lie here.
Swallowing the last chunk, he stands, throwing the remains over the other side of the rock.]
I'll take first watch. You get some sleep.
UGH CUTIES
And even though he doesn't need sleep, he can sleep a few hours-- and he can fake it and go along with the flow instead of arguing that he should be watch. He's too lazy of a guy to argue without it being suspicious.]
Sure, sure. Give me a nudge when you wanna switch. [With a wave of his hand, he's moving to wherever the heck they set up to sleep (with his sword and clothes) so he can lie down there.]
whispers besties
[Not that he plans to. Two days, though short, is telling when things are like this. He'd half-expected Zelos to be gone after the first night and if not then, the second. Consistently he expected a betrayal and consistently he was proven wrong. There was merit in that–enough for a bit of trust. The amount required to keep each other alive. Maybe a bit more.
So long as Zelos stays asleep, Baroona stays on watch, fueled by gratitude–mostly–for not turning on him yet. If Zelos wakes up after four or five hours, he might see Baroona wilting, leaning against one of the rocks and trying to stay awake.]
super besties... back icons....
That was all his body allowed. Four hours-- only three of actual sleep-- and now he was awake and slowly shifting to his feet. When he finds Baroona against the rock like that, there's a bit of a pause before he steps closer, softly, and nudges him with his foot.]
Yo. We can switch now. [Looking like this and he still hasn't asked... Of course Zelos was going to suggest it.]
YEAH!!!! back icons unite
[It's true. Tired as he is, this isn't the worst he's been. Experience has built a sturdy foundation–he could easily last the night. Just... be tired doing it.] Go back to sleep.
WOOOO
[And he certainly doesn't sound or seem it, if the way he nudges harder with his foot and places his hands on his hips says anything. That voice is pretty annoying, too.]
And you're about to pass out over here.
no subject
[He's been keeping watch the past two nights, there's no way only a couple hours of sleep will do him good.]
no subject
Don't tell me you're worried about me, are you?
no subject
Exhaustion slows you down in battle. [... Okay, fine. A glance his way.] I said I'm relying on you. If you're too tired to help out, you're useless.
[AKA yes, I was worried.]
no subject
[He would be. He leans back, thinking on that (and how he's going to answer it) just for a moment before he nudges Baroona with his shoulder, pointing to his own chest. Namely the crystal in the center of it.]
You see this thing? [He gives him a glance, allowing his tone to be a bit more serious-- it's a tone he uses for explaining things. Facts, details...] It's not just for show. It gives me power ups so that I'm stronger in battle, and I need less sleep for it, too.
[It's a white lie. It does make him stronger and not need sleep... But of course the real issue is entirely more complicated. That's not what's going to help here, though.]
I bet I could beat you if we spar how you are right now.
no subject
Especially when he's just been confronted with a challenge.
His eyes turn sharply towards Zelos, a frown pulling at his lips.]
You're underestimating me.
[A calm warning.]
