woah what a boona log without mer chaos

[Blades slice through the air with a whistle and get batted away easily. disappointing but still effective. The dog was catching on. In a way, that made it more fun. With a faint grin, Baroona follows up, darting under the glaive as it knocks the other blade away–his free hand snaps the cord back so the knife will return. With his other blade he stabs deep into the jackal's thigh and slices out. Tear some ligaments, muscles, something. By the way the creature howls and falters, it seems to have worked.

A snarl forewarns him–he looks up, the other side of the glaive comes down. Baroona leans back just in time. The blade enters his thigh–an eye for an eye–where it would've met his back. Fatal blow avoided, but he still barks in pain as the end is pulled out. It starts to swing down again; Baroona doesn't wait to move. Pushing off his back leg, he shoves the jackal to the ground in a tackle, wrestling and cutting with it until–with a knife buried in its throat–it stops moving.

With a heavy sigh, Baroona sits up straight, wiping the sweat from his brow and fixing the cloth around his face. On the corpse's armor, he wipes his knives clean, draping the cord around his neck as he pushes off its body to stand...

And promptly falls over into the sand. Great.

Frowning, he tries again; fails again. He keeps it up, if only because falling helps him close the distance between himself and the well nearby.]

[Not moving. Closing his eyes, actually, while placing his hands behind his head.]

Isn't that hard when one of us is a woman?

What the hell is that supposed to mean?!

[He knows exactly what it's supposed to mean, of course. Which is why he's going to be summoning up a 'healing wind' move. The ground between and around them sways with a soft wind, and the sensation of being healed will run up Baroona again.]

[The change is instant–from casual to panicked in record time. Without his usual grace, he scrambles away, eyeing the circle suspiciously before turning the look towards Zelos.]

Cut it out.

[His words are sterner than usual. Reluctantly, he stands.] Just go get the food.

[...Interesting. Much like Hellboy, he was curious enough to want to push this further. But because of Hellboy, he's also realizing that he should be more aware of the lines that are drawn.]

What's the matter? You scared or something? Take it easy, I'm going, I'm going.

[That's what he settles with. A light jab (that doesn't really sound so light, does it) before he's waving it off like it's not a big deal at all and turning to head to the river.]

[Baroona watches him leave, settling back down only once he's left.

And getting back up a few minutes later.

As satisfied as he is with watching the fire, it's boring compared to the thought of watching Zelos attempt to be competent. He's curious to see if he can actually manage it and it's that curiosity that leads him to follow Zelos' footsteps and settle down by the banks of the river, legs curled up to his chest.]

[The first few attempts were sure to bring at least a bit of amusement, what with the way Zelos tried to go about things. First it was the way he rolled up his pants and tiptoed in like getting wet would kill him. Goofy swipes at fish went nowhere, and even when he did manage to get one, it flopped out and back into the water, leaving him howling and whining about how it had cut him as he hopped on his feet.

After a few minutes of him goofing around, though, he actually seems to settle into a completely different mode, swinging his sword out and watching the water for a few moments before his hand cuts in quickly with the blade. When he brings it out again, there's a fish stabbed into it.

It's then that his face earns a goofy look again, and he waves over to Baroona.]

Heeeeeeey! I got ooooooooone! [Super cool right???]

[It's subtle–easy to miss, especially from far away–but there's a small upturn pulling at the corners of Baroona's mouth. The smallest smile to grace a human's face. He claps, slow and sarcastic at the fish.]

Good job. Keep going.

[Sarcastic as the clapping was, his praise is praise is genuine. He shifts his position, stretching out one leg and leaning back, pointing lazily up the river.]

It's easier to catch them while they're swimming upstream. See if you can sneak up on one.

[He makes a face at that, enthusiasm falling quickly enough (at least in appearance) to mild irritation.]

Seriously? What do I look like, your slave or something? Come down here and make yourself useful by helping me, at least!

[For emphasis, he waves his sword a bit in Baroona's direction, the fish pierced through flopping a bit uselessly with its last breaths.] Hold onto this one!

[With a sigh, Baroona stands, patting the dust off of himself while he remarks, dryly:] You look like a spoiled prince.

[Rolling up his pant legs to his knees, now. Continuing on with his deceptively casual insult:] One that doesn't know how to fish.

[Finding the shallowest part possible, he carefully picks his way through the water to where Zelos is, sliding the fish off the blade and tucking it into his pack.] There. Now go get more.

[Because it's not too noticeable but Baroona is kind of wobbling right now. There's no way he's moving any further in the water than this.]

[There's another short laugh at that.] Prince, huh...

[The tone is usual enough where it may not be the easiest to pick up that he was disgusted by the thought. He's eyeing Baroona for a moment longer before wading further in, to deeper waters, and keeping his eyes below the water.

His vision helps in this area, too, and he's done with screwing around. It should show easily enough in the way he pulls the same stabbing motion and snags a fish, flicking it over his shoulder so the body goes flying at Baroona.

Catch!!]

[THAT'S NOT HOW YOU THROW FISH, ZELOS. Usually you give the person warning first. As it is, Baroona's caught completely by surprise–only noticing that the fish is in the air when he casually glances its way. But the shot is too long–if he wants to catch it he'll have to move back, and fast. So he does, stumbling back without looking where he's stepping. Coincidentally, he catches the fish in the nick of time, holding it too his chest. Unfortunately, in doing so he misplaces his footing, slips and falls into a deeper pool of water. It's only a moment or so later that he gracelessly breaks the surface, thoroughly soaked and shaking the water out of his hair. He frowns heavily, glancing back down at his arms to see...

That the fish isn't there.

It's smugly floating a couple feet away, lazily drifting down the river. Glaring at it, he snatches it back, glancing timidly back at Zelos. Maybe he didn't see all of that....]

[No such luck. Zelos had turned with a cocky smirk to watch the results of his obnoxious actions, spinning fully in turn when it ended up better than expected. By now, he's clutching his stomach from how hard he's laughing, sword angled carefully still in his hand.]

Hahahaha, oh man, that was so lame! You should have seen your face! [Like it's not his fault at all.]

[Baroona's embarrassed–that much is clear. There's a telling moment where he blinks and shrinks back, eyes wide before he covers it up. Narrows his eyes and leans forward, mouth pulled into humorless grin.]

Good one.

[That just calls for some revenge. With some difficulty–(water is not his element)–he stands, slowly wading over to Zelos, fish dragging in the water like a weapon behind him.] I think I should return the favor.

[Yup, using the fish carcass to splash Zelos–slapping it on the water in front of him. That sure is a thing he's doing.]

Wha?-- Hey!

[Stumbling back from the splash, he takes a moment before returning with a grin of his own. Mischievous, if anything. He kicks at the water right back, sending even more at Baroona.

The height of maturity, these two.]

Oh, you wanna play it like that, huh?

[Baroona partially shields himself with an arm while leaning back, consequently hiding his smile. Still covering his face, he sweeps free arm across the surface of the water, splashing Zelos with a small tidal wave.]

Whoa!

[Zelos stumbles back a bit at that, his own arm raising with sword in hand to block bits of the splash from hitting his face. But of course, he still gets soaked.] Now you're just asking for it.

[Stepping back one more step so there's a wide enough distance, he swings his blade at the water. A force of blue strikes the water, causing a tidal wave of its own to splash at Baroona. Cheating, but he doesn't play nice.]

[Baroona lowers his arm-shield just in time to see the magic hit the water. Immediately, he shrinks back, ducking his head under his arms. It doesn't protect him much. The water soaks him thoroughly and his clothes are nearly transparent when the water passes. Gross as it feels, he ignores it, glaring at Zelos from underneath his wet mat of hair–now covering most of his face. With annoyance, he brushes it away, spluttering.]

You cheated.

[As if Baroona wouldn't, if he had the chance. But that's besides the point. Smoothing back his hair again, he pauses, blinking. Stares down at his hands which, unfortunately enough, seem to be missing the fish. His eyes widen and, hurriedly, he sloshes around, searching through the water for it.]

There aren't any rules!

[He shrugs carelessly, only blinking back into a semi-attentive mode when Baroona starts sloshing around like that.]

Whoa, wait-- Did you drop it? Come on, that one was huge! [Sloshing forward himself, he spins his sword into a better grip, eyes focusing on the water. ...Which is a little hard when Baroona's splashing around so much.]

There's no way I'm going to see it at all if you keep screwing around like that.

[Baroona stops, if only to glare at Zelos in flustered frustration. When he speaks, he grumbles, looking away, shoulders hunched slightly around his neck. Clearly embarrassed.]

It slipped.

[Cautiously, he moves forward, trying to keep his splashing to a minimum.]

Uh huh...

[Stepping forward even more now, he shows off in how he stabs his sword forward into the water and catches the flopping, already-stabbed and barely surviving fish and pulls it out.

Gonna just toss Baroona a very obnoxious smirk.]

See? Now that's how it's done!

[Yeah, you're enjoying yourself, aren't you. Baroona gives him a prolonged flat look even as he slides the fish off the sword, "accidentally" slapping him with the tail as he pushes past him.]

Come on.

[AGGRESSIVELY LEAdS BACK TO CAMP]

Hahaha, don't be s--oof!

[Tail to the face. He splutters, stumbling back a bit before storming after Baroona in a huff.]

Hey, hey, don't hit me! [Sheathing his sword, he sees no problem in flopping forward so his arms fall around the other man's shoulders, playfully drooping part of his weight onto him even as they walk.] It was a lesson, right? ♥

[He's clearly trying to be annoying at this point.]

[despite the scowl that he gives Zelos, there's a small quirk to his lips. The barest hint of a smile. Obnoxious as he is, it feels familiar. Reminds him of friends from back home and that's enough of a comfort for him to act like this: less serious and more casual. A possible mistake, but he'll take that risk.

He doesn't try to shrug off Zelos, leaning back into the grip and away from Zelos.]

I didn't hit you. It was an accident. Fish are slippery

You can't be so careless when you're dealing with something so close to perfection! Imagine what would have happened if you cut my beautiful face, hmm?

[Tragedy, certainly. He adds more weight to his lean up until they reach their little camp and he's slipping away, fingers trailing off in a way that shows how little he minds physical contact. It's only odd when he's not the one initiating it.

Now he's stretching, stepping closer to the fire and giving a glance down at his soaked clothing.]

I'm totally drenched thanks to you.

[If he minds the contact, he doesn't show it, moving around the fire in the opposite direction of Zelos, already stripping off his shirt.]

Shouldn't I be saying that?

[Tossing his shirt onto the rocks behind him, he removes his dumb fanny pack knife holding thing before wriggling out of his pants, back turned to Zelos.]

My bag's gonna smell like fish thanks to you.
